ALVIN HOBSON: Perspectives on an Alternative Landscape

Born in 1976, Alvin Hobson lives and works in the countryside, with his studio in Bleary, County Armagh. He studied Fine Art at the University of Sussex, Brighton. Returning to Northern Ireland he continued his academic studies with diplomas in Textiles and Design from the Southern Regional College, Lurgan.
Hobson has exhibited locally in Belfast and also internationally in survey exhibitions of Contemporary Irish Art in Shanghai and Beijing, China. More recently he has shown in America at New York's Long Island University.
Hobson's approach to painting is through an alternative visual landscape, a perspective drawn from both nature and abstraction. Through an interplay of colour, form and rhythm, inspiration is drawn from landscape architecture and the inherent beauty of flower arrangements. With an overwhelming intensity of colour saturation, the visual harmonies can evoke a magical realm. With metaphors to the hybridised existence of the natural world with the built environment, realities of organic and mechanical worlds intermingle in perfect harmonious beauty.
